The Acts direct Lake Mead National Recreation Area to provide a diversity of high quality recreation in such a manner as will preserve natural and cultural resources unimpaired for the enjoyment of current and future generations. The NPS administers recreational activities in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, which includes Lakes Mead and Mohave and surrounding areas. The National Park Service (NPS) is responsible for managing the use of all units of the National Park System for the purposes of compliance with the NPS Organic Act and the unit's enabling legislation. Bureau of Reclamation manages water and power deliveries, which includes control of lake discharge, operation, and maintenance of Hoover Dam and power plant. This elevation change impacted water quality and recreation and is just one of many management challenges facing the lake. Lake surface elevations have dropped by about 131 ft since 1999 due to extended drought and increasing water demands brought about by population growth. Flow in Las Vegas Wash has more than doubled over the past 30 years as a result of the rapid population growth in Las Vegas. The Colorado River provides approximately 97% of the inflow, with the remainder coming primarily from Las Vegas Wash and the Virgin and Muddy Rivers. Altogether, about 25,000,000 people rely on water from Lake Mead, and it is unlikely that the Southwest could have developed as it has without it. Lake Mead currently provides municipal water for the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Boulder City, NV, as well as municipal and industrial water and irrigation water for downstream users. ![]() ![]() Income from power generation paid for construction of the dam and continues to pay for the operation, maintenance, and replacement work at the dam. The current rated capacity of the Hoover Dam power plant is 2,998,000 horsepower (USDOI). The first commercial power was generated at Hoover Dam on 7 October 1936, and continuous, commercial power generation began in June 1937 (Billington et al. The planned generating capacity of more than one million horsepower represented over 20 percent of the power generation capacity in the western states at the time of its construction. Hydropower generation was a key factor in financing the Boulder Canyon Project. Other uses were facilitation of agricultural development in the Colorado Basin and Imperial Valley and municipal growth in Los Angeles (Billington et al. Its primary intended uses were flood control, navigation, and generation of electrical energy. Hoover Dam was one of the first multipurpose dams built by the federal government. comm.) Final construction work on the dam was completed in 1936 (Lara and Sanders 1970). Construction of Hoover Dam started in 1931 and the dam started impounding water on 1 February 1935 (R. The site for the dam was initially proposed to be within The Narrows at the upper end of Boulder Canyon (Figure 1), but it was recognized early in the planning process that a site in Black Canyon would be less costly, had a better geological setting and would also lead to additional water storage and hydropower generation. The construction of Hoover Dam was authorized by the Boulder Canyon Project Act in 1928 (Billington et al. Four narrow canyons (Iceberg, Virgin, Boulder, and Black) and the 32.9-mile long Overton Arm, which extends south from the Virgin and Muddy Rivers to the Virgin Basin, are other important features of the lake (Figure 1). The four basins are ecologically distinct from one another because the waters within them retain the properties of their sources (LaBounty and Burns 2005). From upstream to downstream, these basins are Gregg, Temple, Virgin, and Boulder. Lake Mead includes four large, deep, but connected basins that cover deep canyons and their steep walls along the historic Colorado River channel. ![]() Its greatest width is 9.3 miles, and the highly irregular shoreline is 550 miles in length (WPRS 1981). At full pool, Lake Mead extends 65 miles from Hoover Dam to Pearce Ferry. Lake Mead has enough capacity to hold the entire average annual flow of the Colorado River for two years (WPRS 1981). At full pool, Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the United States by volume and is second only to Lake Powell in surface area (Paulson and Baker 1983). Hoover Dam, which formed Lake Mead, is located in Black Canyon approximately 30 miles east of Las Vegas, NV in the Mojave Desert, Arizona-Nevada (Figure 1). ![]() Mead is a large reservoir on the main stem of the Colorado River.

But there were many ballrooms across America at the time that didn’t practice racial discrimination … among which was the Savoy Ballroom. ![]() The most widely accepted theory said that during the time of racial segregation, white and colored dancers had to go to different venues to dance. But what reliable records we have about the Jitterbug showed that it – like many other swing dance variations – came from out of the Savoy Ballroom in the Harlem side of New York City. Nobody knows who was the first to come up with the dance. The exact origin of the Jitterbug dance is somewhat of a mystery and is the subject of much debate and speculation. You can dance solo, with a partner, or in a large group as you see fit. Usually, a jitterbug dance is performed to upbeat swing music, such as jazz and big band. It’s why the dance is called the “Jitterbug”: the dancers look like a flock of jittering bugs! The dance is characterized by its high-energy movements, fast footwork, and dynamic turns and spins.īut most notably, jitterbug dancers tend to perform with very janky, erratic body movements (almost like they’re drunk.) The Jitterbug dance is considered a type of swing dance and enjoyed its heyday through the Swing Era (1933-1947) and beyond. What is the difference between Jive and Jitterbug? Positive and negative space logos1/21/2024 ![]() Many consider that the white space is the same as the negative space, but white space in design is omnipresent and doesn’t grab attention. The user’s attention span is concise and to hold their attention to the specific details you must use the spaces in a design carefully. ![]() Padding for each element and the size of their margins.Text alignment: Whether the text block should be divided into columns. Is the negative space applicable to separate UI elements?.Since this will affect the user’s visual flow, here are some key points you need to consider: When using negative space in larger spaces, you need to think about all of the UI components. The larger space in design refers to the overall layout and design of a web page or app. For that, make use of enough negative space between the letters, line spacing & overall typography, and other UI elements. And bringing clarity to the overall app or web design layout.įor a smooth user experience, you need to make sure that the text should not require additional effort to be readable. Importantly, the negative space in typography assists in making the test more readable. It differs for the smaller spaces since the agenda differs. The use of negative space is not generic. The small space refers to the area surrounding the following design UI elements: For the type of digital product you are designing, i.e., an app or a website there are two types of spaces based on the area size. The use of negative space and white space in design goes beyond the UI elements. Let’s dive into a detailed explanation of these spaces and how they are different from one another, and their significance in design.ĭifference between small and big spaces in the design And with this blog, we intend to bring some spotlight on the importance of negative, white, and positive space in the design. Space design is responsible for highlighting the subject in front of your eyes. The essence of Space in design is often neglected. But here, nobody is wrong! Along with positive space, these three terms are significant in graphic design, web design, UI UX design, and photography as well. And it confuses people that negative space is just as same as white space design. ![]() Or should we say the White space? The terms negative and white space have been used interchangeably. This is where negative space in design benefits. We are programmed to seek visual hierarchy. And one of the laws of Design, the Proximity principle says that it is the human tendency to create a synergy between the elements in front of their eyes and group. In digital designs, the vision is limited to the screen size. And as a designer, a lot of you are aware of the terms, negative space or white space. Space is the area surrounding the object and in between the subjects as well. What your eyes perceive is what is communicated through the design. It’s a basic principle of design, but it's correct use can create hugely appealing compositions.Design is a way of communication. Negative space also often makes for clean logos, with sharp lines, and defined colors, which is always good for scaling, and ensuring the detail is not lost when resized on different devices. ![]() The abstractness can in fact be defining for your brand (think brand Batman!), and the constant brain battle between the shapes can create a great fondness for the design. If you can find a way to illustrate your brand with multiple related images in one, then your logo can deliver on several levels. The more engaging your logo is, the more people will remember your brand, and it will carry positive connotations when they see it. How long did it take you before you noticed the arrow? One of the signs of a good negative space design is the design does not suffer if the negative space element goes unnoticed. Octane apex legends1/21/2024 His main team role is helping the squad re-position and gain crucial ground. Octane encourages an aggressive playstyle with lots of rotating. Source: Electronic Arts How to Play Octane in Apex Be proactive with your team’s rotation before moving, for proper placement of your jump pad. Don’t hesitate to also use this to your advantage as an air target on your enemies. The launchpad can be great for escaping situations, but enemies can use it just as easily. Recharging is quick, only taking 90 seconds, which gets Octane in the fight frequently if needed. If you slide into the jump pad it’ll launch you farther horizontally but not vertically. You can place it in doorways to prevent entry or an easy escape. Mastering the timing is important to maximize distance. While soaring through the air, you get one double jump if you press the jump button. Octane throws down a jump pad, which the whole team can use to launch themselves through the air, rotate, close distance, or create general movement to be a harder target. The ultimate works perfectly for Octane, as Apex’s focus on movement is such a large part of the game. It can be great for scouting as well but, don’t get caught alone. His tactical is mainly for starting or getting out of a fight. The cooldown to re-use is 1 second, making for frequent use if needed. When Octane’s stim is active, you take less impact and recover quicker from things like arc stars, so keep running. Each use costs 20 health per activation, unless you have less than 20 health. Stim Shotīeing all about speed, Octane’s tactical is a stim shot that increases walk speed by 30% and sprint speed by 40% for 6 seconds. Its biggest bonus and main purpose are to counteract the health loss from Octane’s tactical ability. It takes 6 seconds to kick in, but can be useful when you don’t have that extra healing time during a fight. Octane’s passive ability is health regeneration (with no ensuing damage), allowing you to regain 1 health every second.
